A small town girl with big city ambitions. Sechaba Gqeba (now the new Motswako presenter on SABC 2) and also commonly known as Sechaba G. Her venture into broadcasting began in Gauteng, cutting her teeth in community radio, before winning a region-wide talent/radio show on Highveld 94.7 which catapulted her into commercial radio.
Not being one to settle, she worked as a news reader for some of South Africa’s leading national radio platforms, SAfm and Radio 2000, and developed a desire to host her own radio show – an opportunity which soon presented itself on Kaya FM.
Sechaba Gqeba has now successfully made the transition to television and can be seen on a nationwide platform when she hosts SABC2’s weekly show, Motswako.
Sechaba has firmly entrenched herself in Cape Town as a daytime host on Kfm for the past three years. (This is her 11th year on radio.) Apart from her radio show she can be heard across many radio and television channels as she lends her undoubtedly recognisable and distinct voice to some of the country’s leading brands (such as Woolworths, AUDI, Engen, DHL, Johnson & Johnson) as a voice artist.
Sechaba’s portfolio also includes being an MC and storyteller, having worked on campaigns such as “Maria Carey’s Sweet, Sweet Fantasy Tour”, “Lionel Richie’s: All Night Long Tour” (both in Cape Town), the Cape Town Carnival, The Cape Town Tourism AGM, Cintron Pink Polo, DHL Employee of the Year, to name a few.
A self-confessed foodie, a devoted mother and wife, Sechaba Gqeba epitomises hard work, dedication and an insatiable drive for excellence.
