AFRICAN UTILITY WEEK LAUNCH HIGHLIGHTS A WORLD OF OPPORTUNITIES
The African Utility Week launch function took place on 29th November at the Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Present were a number of key stakeholders and exhibitors with whom the Spintelligent team wanted to share their vision for the 2012 African Utility Week.
Funnyman Mark Banks was the MC for the afternoon and he shared some of his experiences with the audience before introducing Claire Volkwyn, Event Director for African Utility Week. Volkwyn spoke about the move to the new location in Johannesburg and the reasons for choosing the Expo Centre as the home for African Utility Week for the next 3 years.
"We believe that this is the right venue for African Utility Week given the amazing space we can utilise for the exhibition. One of the key factors in our decision was that this venue can accommodate our exhibition on one floor, providing all of our exhibitors with the opportunity to have equal access to our delegates and visitors and share in the full African Utility Week experience,” Volkwyn told the attendees to the launch.
A tour round the facilities was conducted by Expo Centre CCO, Hannes Venter, and Spintelligent International Business Development Director, Andrew Evans. The venue for conference sessions, as well as the exhibition was showcased with plenty of opportunity for questions and answers. Evans’ enthusiasm for the location was clearly visible during the tour.
“Another great thing about this venue, and something we are particularly excited about, if that for the first time we can make use of outdoor exhibition space to showcase our clients' equipment. I’ve always found it ironic that we exhibit outdoor equipment, indoors. Now, we can exhibit outdoor equipment where it belongs – outdoors!" he commented.
The afternoon was rounded off by some social commentary, and plenty of laughs, with MC Mark Banks, before an excellent spit braai was served to those present.
