2016 honours Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella
Dr. Kandeh K. Yumkella, UN Under-Secretary-General and Former Special Representative of the Secretary-General and CEO, Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All), received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the African Utility Week Industry Awards Gala Dinner on Wednesday 18 May 2016.
Dr. Kandeh Yumkella is former United Nations Under-Secretary-General. As Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All and Chief Executive Officer of the initiative, he mobilized global action towards a sustainable energy future and was responsible for the planning and implementation of the initiative as well as engaging with the leadership of relevant stakeholders in government, businesses, academia and civil society at the highest level to advocate for and promote sustainable energy for all. As former chair of UN-Energy (2008-2013), he brought a renewed and vital focus to global energy issues and led the coordination of the United Nations response to energy issues.
2015 honours Dr. Lawrence Musaba
Dr. Lawrence Musaba, Co-ordination Centre Manager, Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), Zimbabwe received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the African Utility Week Industry Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday 12 May 2015.
Dr Musaba graduated with BEng from University of Zambia in 1989, MSc Power Engineering in 1991 and PhD (Electrical Engineering) in 1996, both from UMIST in England. He is a Chartered Electrical Engineer and a Fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology of UK, a Member of the Institute of Electronic and Electrical Engineers of USA, a Member of both the Engineering Institution of Zambia and the Zimbabwe Institute of Engineers. He has received numerous awards including the AFRIGLOBE African Power Resources Achiever of the Year in 2007, Africa’s Leading Energy Personality in 2009 and on behalf of the ZIZABONA project, African Collaboration of the Year Award in 2014
On receiving the award, Dr Musaba said: “this is the highest honour I have received in my life. I feel honoured and humbled. Thank you to the organisers of the African Utility Week Industry Awards and to all the employees of the SAPP.”
2014 honours Steve Lennon
Steve Lennon, Group Executive: Sustainability, Eskom, South Africa received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the African Utility Week Industry Awards Gala Dinner on Tuesday 13 May 2014.
Dr Steve Lennon was with Eskom for more than 30 years and is widely recognized locally and internationally for leadership in: technological innovation and R&D, sustainability management and the triple bottom line, Southern African and Global Energy sector trends and policies, climate change policy and strategy and renewable energy including project development and funding and establishing partnership.
The award was accepted on the night on his behalf by Mongezi Ntsokolo, Eskom's Group Executive for Transmission

The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an individual for achievements which made an outstanding contribution to the utilities industry, whether from a public or private company, over a long career of service, helping to achieve strategic advancement of the sector such as by proactively sharing knowledge, encouraging the adoption of new technologies or establishing exemplary financial governance practices.
