Disruptive Technologies

3-DAY BREAKOUT CONFERENCE TRACK | DEDICATED TECHNOLOGY EXPO ON MAIN FLOOR

African Utility Week continues as the nexus for sourcing new business opportunities no matter your sector, thus enabling more space for dedicated sectors, with growth expected in technologies, generation, and T&D/metering.

Smart grid

Why a dedicated technology area?

The energy and utility sectors around the world cannot ignore the demands for improvement in efficiency and cost effectiveness together with the newer challenges that will be placed on their businesses over the coming decade with the introduction of smartgrids, off-grid solutions, IoT devices, greater penetration of energy storage solutions, alternate revenue streams opened up by this new technology and the need for robust cybersecurity to protect themselves and customers.

Major power generation projects will be required in order to meet this demand; this will need an investment of $90 billion annually from DFIs, banks and investment companies such as: The World Bank, African Development Bank, African Union, GE and Endeavor Energy.

The key enabler to smart energy is the provision of the most effective telecommunications and information communications technologies. There is no single solution, what is best for any particular company is dependent on a number of conditions that may include availability of wireless spectrum, regulatory environment and commercial telecommunication status and competition in the market.
